Yup so this wasn’t your usual sit-down concert. Instead it was a parade from the Centre Culturel M’eko through a neighbourhood in Ngaliema. Dusty streets, dozens of children – it kind of felt like we were following the pied pipers of Kinshasa. I was drenched and could only admire the stamina of the musicians with their heavy tubas and drums. The group is the brass band of Espace Masolo, an organisation created by three Congolese artists to offer creative courses in art, music and theatre to street children. I didn’t get the chance to talk to the people behind Espace Masolo, but will hopefully find the time to do so soon.
